The site
Graylingwell is set within spacious mature landscaped grounds, which are designated as a Conservation Area and listed on the English Heritage Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. The Homes and Communities Agency is working to safeguard the historic value of such sites, returning them to good use.
There are a number of important historic buildings at Graylingwell, the core buildings being red-bricked Victorian buildings built in a Queen Anne style. There is a water tower on the site, typical of this period, located close to the central buildings.
The site is also home to Graylingwell Farm, which dates from the early Eighteenth Century and the farmhouse is a grade II listed building. Next door to the farmhouse is a group of farm buildings, which are also known as the Marchwell Industrial units.
To the north of the water tower is a chapel, which was recently listed, grade II. The land to the north of the Chapel was formerly an orchard and kitchen garden. A large open space with attractive mature trees, formally known as Havenstoke Park, lies to the west of the site.
